How is safety ensured during the climb?
During the summit attempt the group is accompanied by 2 or more mountain guides, 1 guide per 4 participants. In special cases, when there are 4 people in the group, only 1 guide accompanies the group.
Each guide has a double-mode walkie-talkie set (public frequency range + Rescue Service range). The lead guide also has a satellite phone and a cell phone.
We are always in contact with the owners of snowcats and snowmobiles - their services are paid separately, but often it is the only way to conduct an emergency evacuation. For example, when there is a hurricane and a helicopter cannot fly.
Each group is registered with the rescue service in Terskol
Our mountain guides have extensive experience climbing Elbrus from the North under different weather conditions.

The most important thing:
the safety of the climb is ensured by good physical fitness of the participants, a friendly atmosphere within the group and unconditional compliance with the orders of the lead guide.

Frequently asked questions
about this expedition

Georgian visa
For citizens of Russia and the CIS the visa is issued for 30 days right at the airport for free + a small bottle of Georgian wine. To soften the delight of this incredible hospitality:-)
And this is not a joke!
Do you work legally?
Yes. We operate under a contract on behalf of "sole proprietor Dmitry Klimenko" - this is one of the lead guides. All money transfers - only to the current account.

We do not accept cash.
How do I pay?
You transfer a prepayment of €150 via a bank in advance. You can pay the rest in cash upon arrival in Stepantsminda.
Insured event - what are the guide's actions?
If an insured event occurs (injury, falling own, acute mountain sickness attack), the lead guide stops the group, evaluates the situation and makes a decision on emergency evacuation or planned descent accompanied by an assistant guide.
After making the decision the lead guide
- calls the insurance company and reports the surname, name, date of birth and country of residence of the injured participant
- calls the Rescue Service and follows their instructions
- If necessary, immobilizes the injured participant on the slope or starts an immediate descent accompanied by a second assistant guide

As a rule, the remaining group continues the climb
Will there be a shower and what about the toilet?
Hot shower will be available in Stepantsminda in the guesthouse. Outhouse style toilet.
What are the age restrictions for climbing Kazbek?
We do not take children under 14 years old into the mountains.
Participation at the age of 60 or above is considered on an individual basis - the coordinator, makes the decision based on the answers to a number of questions.
What and how are we going to eat?
At the foot of Mount Kazbek, in Stepantsminda - in a café. At base camps - travelling kitchen (gas, pots and gas burners are included). Full board at the high camp at 3900m is included in the price.
Cooking is the responsibility of the participants on duty - by turn under the supervision of the lead guide. You should inform the coordinator about your food preferences when booking a tour (lactose intolerance, vegetarianism, etc.)
How much will the backpack weigh and what will I carry?
Usually the participants of the Mount Kazbek climb hire a packhorse (carrying capacity up to 50 kg) to carry sleeping bags, clothing and mountaineering boots. The weight of personal backpacks in this case is 8-11 kg

General cargo (tents, food, burners, pots, gas) is carried separately by a hired packhorse (included in the price)
What is the best season for climbing?
For Kazbek - August. After that it is rainy and cold. In the spring and in June climbing is not recommended due to the risk of avalanche
I have never been in the mountains. Will I be able to climb?
Yes, you will. But it will be very hard.
Personal motivation, a healthy lifestyle and physical stamina are the basis of a successful climb.

This can be a great starting point for the journey into the world of high-altitude mountain climbing!

Are there guarantees for a successful climb?
Let's be honest: There is no 100% success guarantee. But certainly there is a high or low probability of a successful climb. The probability depends on:
- the expected weather (the most informative forecast is on mountain-forecast.com )
and
- the physical condition of the participants (if they feel okay after the acclimatization at 5000 meters at "Kosaya polka", the chance of reaching the top rise sharply!)

All the rest is secondary:-)

Clothing and Footwear
To open the list
1
Thermal underwear
It's the first line of defense against the cold and wicks away moisture. It's better to take lightweight underwear to move freely. Comfortable to sleep in. Two sets are necessary. Fits perfectly with athletic style underwear.
2
Casual clothing
Lightweight microfibre trousers, fleece or Climashield coat. Your clothes should be comfortable and allow you to move freely.
3
Wind protection
Worn over your casual clothes at high altitudes, during rain and strong winds. Made of expensive breathable GoreTex-type fabrics. Jacket is required, trousers are optional (for those sensitive to cold). Should fit well over your casual clothes.
4
Outer insulated layer
Down jacket, down pants or down shorts. Effectively protects you against cold and wind, lightweight and compact when packed. Sensitive to water. Down trousers are a full substitute to wind protection trousers. Outer layer should fit well over your wind protection layer.
5
Footwear
There are two types of footwear for Mt. Elbrus: everyday boots and mountaineering boots. If it's your first climb, the mountaineering boots can be rented. It definitely pays to buy them if you are going to climb after Elbrus. You need to have your own everyday boots. These are hiking boots with a hard sole. Should be high-ankled and 1.5 — 2 sizes bigger + CROCS-style footwear with a closed toe. Lightweight and waterproof, they are used during rest and in the shower.
6
Warm accessories
Hat (buff), hiking socks, light gloves, down mittens, gaiters. A buff is a universal and convenient accessory, it's better to have two (for head and neck). Hiking socks effectively wick sweat from the feet and provide cushion, but can be expensive. Lightweight synthetic gloves for everyday usage protect hands from wind exposure. Down mittens are essential during the summit push and at high altitudes. Gaiters are worn over hiking boots and they protect the lower part of your trousers from dirt, dust, water and wind.
